Mark Patterson
Starting Pitcher | Regina Pirates
Pitching The key to Patterson's success always has been his ability to keep hitters off balance by changing speeds and spotting his pitches. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. Because he can't overpower hitters, Patterson has to fool them instead. Patterson gives up his share of home runs, but is always around the plate and doesn't give up many walks. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting Patterson's move to first base is average. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Patterson is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Patterson has some pop in his swing.
