Peter Virtue
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! If you're going in to face Virtue, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Virtue's curveball tends to hang. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Virtue will make routine plays, but like most young pitchers he needs more experience to improve as a fielder. His move to first base is slow and ineffective. Virtue is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Virtue has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Virtue as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Virtue was a rule-five pickup for the Retired or Inactive Players last year. I think The Retired or Inactive Players just didn't want to be left out of the Rule-V draft, why else would you sign Virtue? But if you ask me, I'll pass on Virtue.
