Tony Fleming
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Steals sometimes unnerve Fleming, who isn't blessed with extraordinary self-confidence. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Fleming's curveball tends to hang. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting Fleming is a maximum-effort pitcher who's slow off the mound. He could help himself by flagging down a few more grounders. He needs to develop a slide-step, as opponents run freely against him. Fleming is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Fleming has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook Fleming was a rule-five pickup for the Retired or Inactive Players last year. I can't say I know what The Retired or Inactive Players were doing locking this guy up to a long term contract. A questionable call at best. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
