Dean Yarder
Catcher | Free Agents
Hitting In past seasons, Yarder has been a bit of a liability with men on base. This guy can't hit a watermelon with a lampost. Yarder always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. Don't be surprised if The Free Agents's manager sits Yarder when you throw your ace lefty. For some reason, he just can't figure out the southpaw. It's hard to explain but Dean Yarder plays much better on the road then he does at home. It's unfortunate too, with Yarder signing a hefty contract. You gotta imagine management wants a little better relationship between him and the fans.
Baserunning & Defense Yarder isn't a fluid catcher, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. His arm is accurate enough. Yarder doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a handful of bases each season without getting caught very often.
2025 Outlook What The Free Agents was thinking when they signed Yarder to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks.
