Ogden Austerberry
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Austerberry also has a decent changeup. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting For a lefty, his move to first base is average at best, and he has a tendency to forget about runners at second, thereby creating opportunities to swipe third. He hurts himself by falling awkwardly off the mound in his follow-through, which allows too many balls to go through the middle for base hits. Austerberry is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Austerberry has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Austerberry as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook If Austerberry doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
